Hello readers! Many people have complaints saying that their PC is slow. So in this tutorial I’ll be showing you some ways by which you can speed up your PC! These all are easy yet effective ways so even if you have a very less knowledge about computers you’ll be able to follow these methods!

So let us begin with the first step!

Anti-Virus

* Make sure You have an Anti-Virus software Installed. If not, immediately install one! There are many Anti-Virus Software like :- Avast! , Kaspersky, QuickHeal, Norton, McAfee etc. * If you have an Anti-Virus software Installed already, make sure it is updated. It is very Important to have an updated Anti-Virus to be sure that your system is protected. * Scan your PC for viruses and Remove any viruses detected. Reboot.

Disk Cleanup

Once you have made sure your PC doesn’t have any virus, you can move on to this step.
Disk Cleanup is a small utility provided by Microsoft which helps remove the junk files and thus, speeding up your PC.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup (For Windows XP)
Click on Start and then type “Disk Cleanup” and click on it. (Windows 7/8/8.1)

This will launch the disk cleanup utility.

A window like this will appear on the screen. (Shown below)
Choose the drive you want to clean and click on the “Ok” button.
(Don’t laugh on my C: drive name XD )

After that a window will appear on the screen. (Shown below)
It’ll show the progress and after it is complete you’ll be able to choose the files to be removed.

After that, the window below will appear which will show you the junk files and you have to select the files you think are useless and need to be removed.

*Select the files to be removed.
*Click on Ok.

It will ask you once again If you are sure about deleting these files.
Click “Delete Files”.

And there you go! You have successfully freed some of the space. But this is not enough to speed up your PC there are some more steps to be taken to get a fast PC.

Disk Defragmentation

After the second step, comes the disk defragmentation.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmentation (Windows XP/Windows 7)

Click on Start and then type “Defragment and Optimize drives” and click on it. (Windows 8/8.1)

This will open up the disk defragmentation window :-

Select the disk and Click on Analyze Disk.
This will analyze the disk for any fragmented files.
After this, select the disk and click on Defragment disk.
This may take upto an hour but is very effective.
After the process is completed you can simply close the window.
You should do this atleast once a week.

CCleaner

Ok so now we are gonna download a software called CCleaner.
Go to the following link :- https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
and download CCleaner.

After downloading and installing it, Open CCleaner.

You’ll see the following window:-

Click on the Analyze button.
After it has analyzed the disk, Click on Run Cleaner.
You have successfully freed some space now.

Now, after cleaning up go to the “Tools” tab.
And in the “Uninstall” section you’ll find all the apps installed on your PC. Select the apps you don’t want and uninstall them.

Then Click on “Start-up Tab”
You’ll see the programs that run on start-up listed here.
Click on the program you don’t want to Start when the OS boots and click “Disable”.
This will make your OS boot faster!

Temporary Files

Delete the temporary files to speed up your PC.

Click on Start then type “Run”
A window like this will appear.
Type “%temp%” without quotation marks.

Then Click on OK.

You’ll see a folder with all the Temporary Files in it.

Select all the files (You can do this by pressing the keys “Ctrl” + “A” Simultaneously).
And delete’em all (You can do this by either pressing the “Delete” key on your keyboard or by pressing “Ctrl” + “D” and then click on “Yes”).
Don’t try to delete the files that are not getting deleted or are showing any error. They’re perhaps, being used by some application or are important.

Prefetch Files

You can delete the prefetch files the same way we deleted the temporary files. They take up a lot of space and once deleted can speed up your computer!

Click on Start then type “Run”.
The Run box will appear.
Type “prefetch” again, without the quotation marks.
A windows will appear containing all the prefecth files.

Simply Select all the files and delete them (the same way we deleted the temporary files).

Again, don’t try to delete the files that are not getting deleted or are showing any error. They’re perhaps, being used by some application or are important.

And you’re done!!!
